The K9 Unit had a blast competing at KCRO's UFLI 'Hop into Spring 2' Tournament in Winchester, ON April 21/22 2018. The beautiful, sunny weather returned just in time to have a gorgeous weekend of racing!!
Our 'Variety' team of Ninja, Brenna, Limit and Viva raced almost undefeated all weekend and placed 1st!! Big shout-out to Zeppelin who was called in twice to back up Limit and Viva. He raced flawlessly in start after never competing in team, and only ever racing in singles 3yrs ago!!! Amazing job!!! Another highlight was Brenna racing a new personal best of 4.708!! She managed to beat her own record for fastest Border Terrier!!
Our 'Regular 1' team was originally comprised of Crank/Zuma, Kirra, Trigger & Trend, but had a bit of a shake-up after Trend came up lame on Saturday after a warm-up. The team re-grouped and competed with Crank, Kirra, Trigger, Zuma and raced very well all weekend!! Zuma ran her first tournament in a full-time spot and rocked it!! Thanks to Josh and Mel for bringing your awesome Border Collie Kirra to compete with us for the weekend!!
Our 'Regular 3' team had multiple lineup changes during the weekend to accomodate younger and older dogs. Felon, Wonder, Bonus, Abby, Lego and Graffiti all raced over the weekend and had a great time!! Wonder made her debut and did an amazing job racing in start part-time with a personal best of 3.89!! She is one speedy little dog!! Abby ran in singles and is now UFLI's fastest Boston Terrier with a time of 4.423 and she's just getting started!!
Two of our younger dogs - Venture and Riddick - were able to get some valuable training time in the racing ring during pre-flights. Can't wait to see these two racing!!
Our next race is 'Paws on Fire' NAFA Tournament in Richmond, ON May 5/6 where our Ottawa contingent will have 2 lineups!!
The K9 Unit competed at Rocket Relay's NAFA Tournament at the Canadian Pet Expo March 31-April 1. It was our first tournament of the year and was a fun season-opener for us! After our team not competing together since last August, it was great seeing the results of our winter training and watching the dogs racing together again 😊
Our Regular 1 Division Lineup of Crank/Zuma, Trend, Bonus, Graffiti/Abby ran well, and we were able to give our younger dogs Zuma and Abby a chance to race. Both did exceptionally well, with Zuma running a few heats in start and posting 3.7-3.9 seconds with a personal best of 3.73!! Abby raced part-time in anchor position and ran flawlessly all weekend! She is getting faster every time out, and her new personal best is 4.5 seconds!
Our Regular 2 Division Lineup of Ninja, Brenna, Limit, Viva/Felon ran great all weekend and placed 3rd.
Big thanks to Rocket Relay for hosting an awesome tournament and to our sponsors Big Country Raw and Tri-Acta who always support us.
We were short-handed this weekend, but a huge thanks to our teammate Paula Roberts who came all weekend with no dog to race just to help us out. We ended up throwing her in to boxload (gave her a quick 5 min rundown of the rules) and off she went!! Awesome job!!! Also big thanks to Melanie Linda and Josh Gibbs for running Ninja!! We always enjoy your help and company!!
Last but definately not least, big thanks to Karie Elizebeth Photography for coming out to take some phenomenal action shots of our dogs and also dogs from other teams. It is greatly appreciated, and the photos will be showing up on our Website, Facebook and Instagram soon!! A few sample photos are posted at the top.
We are now looking ahead to our next competition April 21/22 at KCRO's 'Hop into Spring 2' UFLI Tournament in Winchester. Hope to see everyone there!!
